Navigate 4.1.1 Trend Impact Forum

The trend that I feel will make the most impact on digital learning over the next 5 years is mobile learning. When picking a LMS this is key criteria to look for as more and more students are using smartphone devices.

In the first week of the semester, the number of students using mobile devices like tablets instead of computers to access the Internet, went from 22% to 71% between 2010 and 2011 (ITS)

Even in my own experience my 12 year old daughter recently got a Blackberry in which she occasionally uses to go on her homeroom teachers wiki page. The impact of this trend specifically effects how new options should be developed when using LMS applications.

Beyond just being a hot topic or keynote conversations the eLearning platform will have to conform in all sectors that they haven't already to include this type of support. The portability of mobile devices give student even more appeal to want to have access to educational platforms online while on their mobile phone. The content is truly ready in the palm of their hands when and where it is available.
