Communicate 1.1.1. Definitions of Communication Quest

  • How have your individual communication skills changed as with the innovations in technology?
My individual communication skills have changed with the innovations of technology by making me a more introverted person. While I still have outgoing characteristics the implementation of text messages and IM have actually made me less prone to having a real conversation. My day consist mostly of me being in front of my computer unless it is absolutely necessary for me to leave. Based on previous quest I have recognized these changes and now schedule recurring breaks for health reasons. I whole-heartedly agree with Sherry Turkle's "Connected: But Alone?" To me it is not a question we truly are alone. I am a prime example of how technology has cause this change within myself. Overall my personal and external communication skills are actually worse.

  • How have advancements in technology altered classroom communication? Will these change further?
Advancements in technology have altered classroom communications by offering an alternative option of communication. Students can talk to each other in class versus passing a note. Communication does not have to take place in real time and now allow for students and teachers to present a perception to each other versus reality. Mistakes can be edited out and communication can be as ideal as the conversation that is typed is meant to be.

In my opinion there is definitely a need to increase verbal communication that truly enhances our connectivity.
